Day One Results and Stats
BRASELTON, Ga. - The Kennesaw State men's golf team has itself firmly in the mix after Monday's first round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, turning in a 12-over par 296 to stand alone in fifth place.
Oliver West returned to form after struggling in the Owls last event, carding a one-over par 72 to put himself in a tie for fourth. The senior from Birmingham, England was second in birdies (4) and par five scoring (-1), and third in par four scoring (-1).
Freshman Matthew Nagy is just one stroke behind West, in a tie for ninth, at 73 after leading the field with 14 pars. Wesley Sheard also has himself inside of the top 15 after carding a three-over par 74 in the opening round.
J.P. Putnam and Michael Tulacz rounded out the scoring for the Owls on Monday. Putnam turned in a six-over par 77 which was good for a tie for 26th. Tulacz struggled to get things going in the early going, recording an eight-over 79.
Gardner-Webb's Blake Palmer is the individual leader heading into the second round after carding an impressive 65 on Monday. He holds a four-stroke lead over second place Gareth Shaw of ETSU.
The Owls are just 12 strokes off of the lead and four strokes out of second place heading into the second 18.
Palmer's low opening round led the Bulldogs to the front of the pack, as he and his teammates turned in an even-par 284 to take an early eight-stroke lead over second-place ETSU. North Florida rounds out the top three, coming in just a stroke behind ETSU after carding a team 293.
The Owls will be paired with Campbell and Stetson in Tuesday's round with Tulacz leading them out of the gate at 9:40 a.m. His teammates will follow every ten minutes thereafter, capped off by West at 10:20 a.m. Live scoring can be found on www.golfstat.com by clicking on the A-Sun Men's Championship link.
