BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Kennesaw State's three-game winning streak came to a close today despite two home runs hit by Martin Baker. The Owls dropped an 11-4 decision to UAB on Wednesday afternoon at Young Memorial Field.

Baker staked the Owls to an early lead when he connected for a solo homer in the first inning. UAB responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame and five more in the second against KSU starting pitcher Justin Edwards to take a 7-1 lead.

The junior from Hoover, Ala., struck again in the third. With Jacob Robbins on first, Baker connected for a two-run homer to right, pulling the Owls within four. Undaunted, UAB scored a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to extend the cushion to seven.

The Owls dented the scoreboard for the final time in the sixth inning. Freshman Drew Fowlkes doubled down the line in right, scoring Jace Whitmer who had doubled one batter before. The Blazers answered back with a final tally in the bottom of the inning.

Edwards (3-3) took the loss for the Owls, giving up seven runs in 1.2 innings of action. Bubba Blalock was touched for three runs in 3.1 innings, while Kyle Clayton allowed a run in two innings of work. Brett Kennedy pitched a perfect eighth inning for the Black and Gold.

Blake Huddleston (2-1) earned the win for UAB with two effective innings of work to start the game. Huddleston allowed three runs in two innings.

The Owls will be back in action at Stillwell Stadium this Friday and Saturday when Mercer visits for an Atlantic Sun Conference series. Game one will commence on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.
