Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga.--The Owls couldn't get any traction offensively against Lipscomb as Kennesaw State dropped a pair of, 4-0, decisions to the Bisons on Friday afternoon at Bailey Park.

The Owls fell behind early in game one as Kellie Sirus launched a two-run homer over the fence in left center to give Lipscomb the early lead.

The Black and Gold would threaten in each of the first three innings, getting a pair of runners on base in each inning. Each time, the Owls would be unable to get a run across, leaving all six runners on base.

An RBI ground out in the fifth gave the Bisons their third run of the game. In the sixth, a double to left by Sara Simons brought home the final run of the game.

Brittany Matthews (17-7) took the loss for the Owls, pitching a complete game and allowing eight hits and three earned runs. The senior walked five and struck out seven.

Kim Jacobson (6-8) was the winning pitcher for the Bisons, allowing five hits and three walks while also fanning seven Owls.

The second game remained scoreless until the third when Sirus tripled to right center to bring home the first run of the game. Sirus would score on a single through the left side of the infield by Heather Collins.

The Owls threatened again in the third, getting a pair of runners on as Catherine Rodriguez drew her second walk of the game and Jessica Cross singled to left. That would be as close as the Owls would get to scoring, as a fly out to left ended the threat.

A pair of errors in the seventh allowed Lipscomb to score two more runs to take a 4-0 lead into the seventh. That would be all the run support that Alaina Jacobson (8-4) would need, as she finished off the complete-game three-hit shutout performance by retiring the side in the seventh.

Cross (4-3) pitched six innings and took the loss for the Owls. The hurler allowed two runs on two hits with six walks and four strikeouts.

The Owls will have a short respite before returning to the field tomorrow to battle Belmont. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
