USA Lady Jaguar Invitational Final Results
MOBILE, Ala. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team fell five spots on the leaderboard, dropping from a tie for seventh to 12th place after Tuesday's final round of the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational. The Owls turned in a team 325 to finish with a 639 total for the tournament.
"Obviously we are a little disappointed in the way we played today," said Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "Being within striking distance of a third-straight top five finish and going backwards on the leaderboard in the final round is tough to handle."
Laura Lindsey and Abby Fitzgerald were the only KSU golfers to improve their score on Tuesday, turning in a 75 and a 78 respectively to move up the individual leaderboard.
Lindsey's 75 was tied for the third-lowest score of the day and helped propel her from a tie for 32nd to a tie for 12th at 154. Fitzgerald also moved up the leaderboard significantly, finishing in a tie for 33rd at 159 after standing in a tie for 48th following the first round of play.
"Laura had a great round for us today," added Brinsmead on Lindsey's performance. "She kept it together when most of the field was really struggling with the conditions."
Jessica Tarbet turned in an 85 to finish at 162 in a tie for 47th while Lindsay Hagerman fell back with an 87 to finish tied for 60th. Chelsea Bonk rounded out the scoring for the Owls, tuning in a closing 87 to finish at 172 in a tie for 89th.
Atlantic Sun Conference opponent East Tennessee State ran away with the tournament, posting a 600 team total for a 17-stroke advantage over second place Southern Mississippi. ETSU's Sinead O' Sullivan claimed the individual crown with a one-under par 143.
"We have a lot of work to do over the next three weeks to prepare for the Larry Nelson," concluded Brinsmead. "We are really excited about hosting our own event."
The Owls will get nearly a month off to prepare before hosting the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational on March 31st and April 1st at Chateau Elan in Braselton, Ga. It is the first event that KSU has hosted since joining the A-Sun.
