USA Lady Jaguar Invitational Day One Results
MOBILE, Ala. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team finds itself in the middle of the crowded field after Monday's opening round of the USA Lady Jaguar Invitational at the 6071-yard, par-72 Azalea City Golf Club in Mobile, Ala.
The Owls are tied for seventh with Samford at 314 and are just six shots out of second place and two shots out of the top five heading into Tuesday's final round. Atlantic Sun Conference opponent, East Tennessee State, leads the 18-team field after opening with a 301.
"We didn't play our best golf of the year today, but we kept ourselves in the picture in a pretty big field," said Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead on her team's opening round performance. "I'm proud of how our women held it together under very tough afternoon conditions."
Jessica Tarbet and Lindsay Hagerman played identical rounds, going 38-39-77 to stand tied for 18th. The 77 was Hagerman's best round since the second round of the Great Smokies Invitational last September when she posted a 72. Tarbet and Hagerman are just four shots off of the individual lead shared by three golfers at 73.
Laura Lindsey was even par through the front nine to lead the Owls, but the difficult afternoon conditions led to a closing 43 and a tie for 32nd at 79.
The weather, with wind gusts of up to 30 miles per hour, got the better of sophomores Abby Fitzgerald and Chelsea Bonk. The Georgia natives were in the thick of the competition heading into the back nine before a 43 and a 46 put them in a tie for 46th and 81st respectively.
"If we execute our shots and eliminate a few of the mental errors we had today, we should be able to move up the leaderboard at least a few spots on Tuesday," added Brinsmead.
Belmont and Jacksonville joined the Owls and the Bucs in representing the A-Sun in the field. The Bruins are tied with Lamar for third at 311 while the Dolphins are in fifth alone at 312.
Tuesday's final round will tee-off with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. EST.
