MONTGOMERY, Ala.--Brett Kennedy pitched five scoreless innings and the Owls offense scored 11 runs in the first two innings, giving Kennesaw State a 15-0 victory over Alabama State on Tuesday afternoon at Paterson Field.

Playing at the site of its 1996 NCAA Division II National Championship win, the Owls got off to a solid start. Ric Bishop drilled a two-run homer to right center to stake KSU to an early 2-0 lead.

KSU put the game away in the second. The Owls needed only three hits but put nine runs on the board to take an 11-0 lead. After loading the bases with one out in the inning, KSU's first run scored on a walk to Tyler Stubblefield. Bishop then followed with a single up the middle on a 2-1 offering to make it 5-0.

After another walk loaded the bases again, the Owls brought home another run with a bases loaded walk to Drew Fowlkes, giving KSU a six-pack of runs. Jay Morrow followed with a single up the middle to bring home two more runs, giving KSU an 8-0 lead.

An out and a walk later, an error by Alabama State allowed Ross Tendler to reach with the bases loaded, bringing home another run. The scoring finally closed for the Owls when Jacob Robbins singled to right, bringing home two runs to give KSU an 11-0 advantage.

Two more runs crossed the plate for the Owls in the fourth when Jon White connected for a two-run blast over the wall in center.

In the fifth, KSU closed out the scoring. Tendler singled into left to bring home Jerome Wooley with KSU's 14th run of the game. Robbins then had a flare into right for a single, bringing in White for the final tally of the game.

Kennedy was outstanding for the Owls. The freshman pitched five scoreless innings to earn his first collegiate victory. Kennedy gave up just five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Kyle Clayton worked two perfect innings, striking out three batters to complete the shut out.

The Owls will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
