NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A day after being no-hit, the Kennesaw State offense was able to pick up seven hits, but again they were held scoreless as Lipscomb took the final game of a three game series, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field.
This time it was Mike Dunn (2-1) who got the better of the Owls (10-16, 6-6 A-Sun) as he allowed just seven hits, four of them by Jay Morrow, in the complete game win. Freeman (2-3) suffered the loss, lasting just five innings.
Lipscomb (14-11, 10-5 A-Sun) got on the board first, scoring a pair of runs in the third inning with a double by Caleb Joseph and a single by Blake Bratcher. The Bisons would get an unearned run in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead. The Owls defense committed four errors in the game, one by each infield position that led to a pair of unearned runs.
Back-to-back walks and a bunt single loaded the bases in the sixth inning and chased Freeman in favor of Michael Bohana. The Owls right-hander got out of the inning with minor damage as Ryan Wilkins lined a sacrifice fly to right field and Branden Cadavid grounded a roller through the right side for a 5-0 lead.
Kennesaw State left five runners on base in the first three innings including stranding two runners in the first two innings of the game. However, the Owls managed only three base runners over the next six innings as the Owls couldn't get a runner past second base over the final eight innings.
In addition to Morrow's four singles, the Owls got base hits from Jace Whitmer, Josh Whitaker and Curtis Van Wyck.
The Owls will be back home on Tuesday afternoon when they battle Alabama State at Stillwell Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. with all fans receiving free admission to the game.
