NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Kennesaw State saw its offensive woes continue on Saturday afternoon as the Owls were no-hit by Lipscomb's Brandon McClurg at Ken Dugan Field in the second game of a three game weekend series.
A night after the Owls (10-15, 6-5 A-Sun) scored 10 runs, the KSU bats fell silent as McClurg faced 34 batters in his 10 strikeout effort. However, the Owls managed to get eight runners on base and leave seven stranded as McClurg walked a batter, hit four had three batters reach base via errors.
Chad Jenkins (1-3) was once again the hard luck loser for Kennesaw State as the right-hander allowed just four runs (three earned) on just six hits over eight innings of work.
Lipscomb (13-11, 9-5 A-Sun) got on the board first with a two-out rally in the second inning. Brad Gooch was hit by a pitch to get things started and Jorge Gutierrez followed with an infield hit. A wild pitch put runners on second and third before Allen Bolden singled through the right side scoring Gooch before a laser throw by Jay Morrow cut down Gutierrez at the plate.
Gooch got the Bisons fifth inning rally started when he reached on an error by KSU shortstop Bucky Smith. After an out, Bolden doubled down the right field line putting runners at second and third. A wild pitch brought home the second run and Caleb Joseph followed with a two-run homer for a 4-0 lead.
The Owls would have their chances with runners on base, putting two runners on after two were out in both the fourth and sixth innings. In the ninth inning, the Owls had runners on first and second with one out before Drew Fowlkes hit into an inning ending double play.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain and inclement weather in the Nashville area and the rubber game of the three-game set will played on Sunday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. central standard time at ken Dugan Field.
