Box Score

DOTHAN, Ala.--In the finale of the Screentech Wiregrass Classic, the Owls scored more runs in one game than they had in the previous two but still fell to Troy 10-6 on Sunday afternoon. The Owls went 0-3 for the tournament.

The Trojans scored all of their runs in three innings, starting with a pair of tallies in the first. Doubles by Beau Brooks and Bryan Miller and a single by Lance Miller brought home all three runs.

KSU (4-6) got on the board in the third on a deep blast over the left field wall by Jace Whitmer. The Owls would load the bases on singles by Jacob Robbins, Tyler Stubblefield and Ric Bishop, but a double play ended the KSU threat.

Walks plagued the Owls in the fifth as a bunt single and four consecutive bases on balls resulted in another run for Troy. From there, a throwing error and a sacrifice fly netted two more runs for the Trojans, making the score 5-1.

The Owls got on the board again in the sixth. Josh Whitaker doubled down the line in left to start the inning. Jay Morrow followed with a single into left center, bringing home Whitaker to pull KSU within three.

The Trojans (8-1) put the game away in the bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs to go ahead, 10-2. Troy left the bases loaded, however, keeping the damage to a minimum.

KSU tried to jump back into the game in the latter stages, loading the bases in both the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, the Owls scored two on a bases loaded single by Morrow. With the base paths loaded and two men out, the Trojans got out of the jam thanks to a ground out.

In the eighth, the Owls inched ever closer as Whitaker singled through the left side of the infield to bring home a pair of runs and make the score 10-6.

That would be as close as the Owls would get on this afternoon. The Black and Gold were retired 1-2-3 in the ninth to end the contest.

Michael Bohana (0-1) took the loss for the Owls, allowing five runs on five hits in four innings of work. Andrew Dickinson (1-0) worked six innings to get the win for Troy.

The Owls will return to action on Tuesday against Alabama State. Game time in Montgomery, Ala., is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CST.
