Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga.--Owls reliever Michael Bohana entered in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and no one out and struck out the side en route to a save as Kennesaw State defeated Florida Gulf Coast, 13-8, in game one of a doubleheader at Stillwell Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Owls fell, 13-5, in the nightcap.

Bohana came into the game to try and earn a rare five-run save. He needed just four pitches to strike out Victor Rodriguez, four to strike out Paul Fibbe, and eight to fan Vinnie Scarduzio to end the threat.

In the ninth, Bohana retired FGCU's hitters in order to earn his first save of the year.

KSU broke out of an offensive slump against the Eagles, scoring 10 runs in the first three innings. The Owls plated two in the first to take the early lead only to see FGCU score three in the top of the second following a rain delay of 62 minutes. The Owls responded with five runs of their own to open up a, 7-3, cushion.

In the second inning, the Owls scored all five runs after the first two batters were retired. Jacob Robbins tripled home Tyler Stubblefield with the first run of the inning. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, Jace Whitmer doubled down the line in left to score Robbins and Martin Baker. Drew Fowlkes then singled to right to score Ric Bishop and Whitmer for the final runs of the frame.

After FGCU scored three runs in the top of the third, Bishop extended the lead back to four with a three-run blast onto the roof of the Bailey Building on left on a 1-1 offering, making the score 10-6.

The Owls would add runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh to hold off the Eagles rally.

Wes Tignor improved to 1-0 by earning the win in relief of Justin Edwards. Edwards was lifted after allowing three runs in 1.2 innings of work. Tignor held FGCU to three runs on four hits in 2.1 innings of action. Ryan Rodebaugh pitched two innings and allowed one run with Bohana firing 23 of 29 pitches for strikes over the last two innings.

Casey Coleman dropped to 2-2 with the loss, giving up seven runs in 1.2 innings of work.

In game two, the Owls and Eagles were tied at 4-all after four innings, but FGCU exploded for eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 13-5 victory.

The Owls out-hit the Eagles 13-12 in the contest but left 12 men on base. KSU also committed four errors while FGCU (14-4, 7-2) had just two.

Bishop connected in the eighth for his second homer in as many games. Bishop had two RBIs on the evening while Whitmer had three hits to pace the Owls offense.

KSU (6-10, 3-3 A-Sun) will be back in action this Tuesday when it takes on Georgia Tech at Stillwell Stadium. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
