Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. - Angela Lopez was outstanding in her first start for the Owls as she shutout the Ole Miss Rebels on two-hits as Kennesaw State won its third straight game of the season, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Bailey Park.

The Owls (3-0) got off to an early lead as they scored a run in the bottom of the first inning. Lyndsay McCurry (2-for-4) led off the game with an infield hit and stole second base. With two outs, Jacki Warren reached on an error by Ole Miss shortstop Ashley Dowdy, scoring McCurry for a 1-0 lead.

Kennesaw State would add two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Amanda Malcom (1-for-3) led off with a bunt single, Jenna Closner (1-for-3) reached on a throwing error by Dowdy. After an out, Hollie Huffman (0-for-3) grounded out, scoring Malcom and McCurry followed with an infield hit scoring pinch-runner Erica Joseph and giving the owls a 3-0 advantage.

Lopez (1-0) was very impressive as she faced just two batters over the minimum. The Troy transfer allowed a first inning double to Amber Tramp (1-for-3) and after a wild pitch moved her to third base, retired the next 10 batters before allowing a double to Dowdy (1-for-3) in the fourth. Lopez retired the final 10 batters she faced, striking out two in the seventh inning to finish the day with seven strikeouts.

From the Nest Amanda Malcom's bunt single to lead off the sixth inning extended her hitting streak to three games ... Malcom is the only KSU player to hit safely in the first three games ... Jamie KeKaualua saw her modest two-game hitting streak snapped when she struck out in the first inning ... KeKaualua did reach base twice getting hit by a pitch both times ... Lyndsay McCurry stole a pair of bases giving her four on the season ... the Owls still have not surrendered an earned run this season.
