DOTHAN, Ala.--After an emotional series victory over Atlantic Sun Conference foe Stetson, the Kennesaw State baseball team ran out of gas Friday, committing five errors in a, 16-0, loss to Wake Forest in the opener of the Screentech Wiregrass Classic.
The Owls were down by a single run after one inning of play, but the Demon Deacons scored seven runs in the second to blow the game wide open. Twelve batters came to the plate in the inning for Wake.
KSU surrendered another run in the third and two more in the fourth. The Owls kept Wake off the board until the eighth inning when four KSU errors allowed five more runs to cross the plate.
Offensively, KSU was stymied as well. The Owls only got three singles on the day, as Ric Bishop, Drew Fowlkes and Josh Whitaker all reached base.
Kyle Clayton (0-1) took the loss for the Owls, allowing six runs on five hits in 1.1 innings. Ryan Rodebaugh gave up three earned runs in 4.2 innings of work. Adam Fine gave up five runs (all unearned) in two innings of action.
Ben Hunter (1-1) worked seven innings to get the win for Wake Forest. Hunter allowed three hits while walking three and striking out 11.
KSU will hope to rebound tomorrow when it faces Penn State. Game time is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. CST.
