Fighting Camel Spring Classic Day One Results
BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Kennesaw State women's golf team is proving that golf is a joint effort, as the five-member squad turned in another outstanding all-around performance to put itself in fourth place after 18 holes at the Fighting Camel Spring Classic.
The Owls recorded an opening round 321 and are just six strokes out of second place at the 6,012-yard, par-72 Keith Hills Country Club Course No. 1. They trail third place Memphis by five strokes and second place Elon by six.
Chelsea Bonk posted a 77 on Monday to lead the Owls. The sophomore from Acworth, Ga., finds herself in a logjam tie for sixth place in the individual competition, only three strokes off of the lead shared by three players.
Laura Lindsey stands tied for 20th after an opening round 80, while freshman Jessica Tarbet continued her solid spring play with an 81. Tarbet stands well inside the top third of the large field with her tie for 24th.
Abby Fitzgerald rounded out the scoring for Kennesaw State. After leading the team in the first event of the spring, the sophomore recorded an 83 on Monday to tie for 39th.
Tournament host and Atlantic Sun Conference rival Campbell is the tournament leader, holding a fourteen shot edge Elon after recording an opening round 301.
The Owls, who are coming off a second place finish in the season-opening Baja Invitational, will be looking to secure their second-straight top five finish on Tuesday. The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
