KENNESAW, Ga. - In an emotional farewell to seniors Ronell Wooten and Shuan Stegall and in front of a vocal home crowd, the Kennesaw State Owls soundly defeated the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, 75-60, at the KSU Convocation Center on Saturday night.
On Senior Night, it was Wooten and Stegall who helped lead Kennesaw State to an impressive victory in the home finale. Stegall put up his fifth double-double (15 points and 12 rebounds) of the season, while Wooten scored a game-high 20 points as the Owls won their second straight game.
The duo gave the fans a slew of special moments in the game, topped off by Wooten's three alley-oop dunks including a reverse slam midway through the second half that shook the Convocation Center to its core.
The Owls (8-19, 5-8 A-Sun) built their lead to as many as 20 points in the first half and 22 points in the second half as the Black and Gold's lead stayed in double-figures for the final 26 minutes.
Florida Gulf Coast (9-18, 5-8 A-Sun), who shot just 34 percent in the game, had its run early in the game as they ripped off an 11-0 run to take a seven point lead, 13-6, with 10:56 left in the half.
Kennesaw State went on a 13-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 19-15 lead. J.D. Pollock, Wooten and Kelvin McConnell all hit three pointers while Stegall and Tanner Jacobs made lay-ups as KSU took control of the game.
Pollock, who played his best game of the season, tied his career-high with a 10-point effort. The Owls had four players score in double figures with McConnell scoring 16 points. Casey Wohlleb also scored 20 points for the Eagles while Landon Adler chipped in 11 points.
The Owls will be back in action on Thursday evening as they travel to Florida to play the North Florida Ospreys. Kennesaw State will be on the road for their final three games of the season, playing Jacksonville next Saturday before finishing the season at Mercer on Feb. 29 in the Atlantic Sun Conference Game of the Week on Comcast.
