KENNESAW, Ga. - The hot-shooting Owls went cold tonight and the Maine Black Bears took advantage as they defeated Kennesaw State, 60-47, in the championship game of 100 Club Classic at the KSU Convocation Center.

The Owls (1-1) shot just 27 percent from the field, making only 16-for-60 shots from the floor, including making 5-of-29 three-pointers. This came a night after the Owls made 16-of-28 three-pointers.

Maine (2-0) became the second straight team from the northeast to win the 100 Club Classic, following Colgate's win last season. The Black Bears shot 55 percent from the field including an 8-for-8 night from all-tournament team selection, Troy Barnies, who scored 16 points.

Jon-Michael Nickerson, who was one of two Kennesaw State players selected to the all-tournament team, led the Owls with 14 points and Kelvin McConnell added 12 points as the Owls couldn't come within seven points of the Black Bears in the second half.

Kennesaw State started out strong after J.D. Pollock scored the first points of the night for the Black and Gold. However, Pollock (1-for-6) would get into foul trouble early and fouled out with just two points.

The Owls trailed 10-5 after a mini 6-0 run by Maine. However, Kennesaw State would roar back with a 9-2 run capped off by a three-pointer by Nickerson to take a 14-12 lead. The game would remain a one possession contest with the Owls holding a, 21-18, lead before a 5-0 run ended the half.

Maine would begin the second half on a 9-0 run, building a 14-point lead that the Owls could only half. The KSU defense caused 23 Maine turnovers and the Owls controlled the offensive boards, 19-8, but couldn't get past an off shooting night.

The Owls will play Clark Atlanta on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the KSU Convocation Center. The game can be seen on A-Sun.TV with Craig Corbin and Scott Webb bringing all the action.
