BRADENTON, Fla. - The Kennesaw State Women's Golf team returned to form in the opening round of the University of South Florida's Waterlefe Invitational Monday, turning in a season-low team 301 to finish the day in sixth place.

"It was nice to see our entire lineup come out and play solid golf today," said Kennesaw State Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "This is the type of golf that our team is capable of playing. I think our experiences in the past three events, though tough, have taught us a great deal about what it takes to win at this level."

The Owls are just one stroke behind fifth place Grand Valley State and eleven strokes behind leader Campbell. They were second as a team in pars with 60, carding nine birdies along the way. The 301, their lowest since 2005, improved upon their previous team season-low 18-hole total by 16 strokes.

Laura Lindsey led the Owls, firing an even-par 72 after finishing third in par four scoring (3.90). The 72 is Lindsey's lowest round since joining the Owls last season. She stands tied for 11th, just two strokes off of the individual lead held by six golfers. It is her second appearance at the event, as she finished tenth in 2007 while playing for Daytona State College.

Ashley Aguilera, who also played the event in 2007, finished the day inside of the top 10 as well, carding a two-over 74 to keep her in the mix in a tie for 20th. She was steady for most of the day, coming in tied for fourth in pars with 13.

Lindsay Hagerman and Malin Becker recorded the Owls other two scores of the day. Both golfers turned in season-lows after breaking 80 for the first time this season. Hagerman is tied for 41st at 77 while Becker is tied for 47th at 78. Becker tied Aguilera with thirteen pars in her first collegiate sub-80 round.

Jordan Lazenby, who has led the Owls in two of their first three events, was just one stroke behind Becker at 79. She is tied for 56th heading into Tuesday's final round.

"The girls were really composed today, minimizing the damage when they got themselves into trouble," added Brinsmead. "The weather delay was kind of disappointing because we were really on a roll. Hopefully we can maintain our momentum and get our first top five finish of the season."

Due to the weather delay in the second round, the event has been shortened from 54 to 36 holes. Golfers will resume their second rounds on Tuesday, and the winners will be determined based on their two round totals.
