Box Score
SPARTANBURG, S.C.--Redshirt sophomore Sabrita Gulley's 11 kills were not enough as the Kennesaw State volleyball team fell in three sets (25-15, 25-16, 25-23) to USC Upstate on Saturday afternoon in an Atlantic Sun Conference match.
While most of the statistics in the box score were even, it was the service game which plagued the Owls most against the Spartans. KSU managed just one service ace with five service errors. Although USC Upstate had six service errors, the Spartans also had 11 service aces, proving to be a margin the Owls could not overcome.
The Spartans topped the Owls in kills, 41-33. USC Upstate hit .406 for the first set and .300 in the second set. While the Owls hit .303 in the third set compared to just .143 for the Spartans, service aces proved to be the difference in the scoring in the most competitive set of the match. The teams were nearly even in digs for the match, with KSU having just a one dig deficit to USC Upstate (36-35).
Chelsey Denesha had nine kills for the Owls. Selina O'Leary had a team-best seven digs and setter Ginny Frederick had 28 assists to lead KSU.
Holly Mauldin of Upstate had match-highs in assists with 29 and digs with 10. Jovana Lubura had 13 kills while Megan Healey had four service aces.
The Owls are off until Friday when Belmont visits the KSU Convocation Center. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
