After an ETSU timeout, the Lady Buccaneers scored the next two points, taking a lead they would not relinquish. Twice, KSU pulled back within a point but ETSU would score eight of the final 11 points to take the opening set, 25-19.

The second set was the tightest of the match, featuring nine ties and three lead changes. With the score tied 15-all, ETSU committed three consecutive errors to give the Owls an 18-15 lead. ETSU scored the next three points, but back-to-back kills for Chanel Davis and Callie Churchwell gave the Owls back the lead, 20-18. ETSU took the next four points to take a 22-20 lead, with Churchwell stopping the run with a kill. From there, the teams would trade points over the final five points of the set. KSU fought off a set point down 24-22 as Gulley recorded a kill, but an ETSU kill on the following point gave the Lady Bucs a 25-23 win in the set.

In the final set, the Owls came back to tie the score at 4-4 after a kill by Gulley and an ETSU error. From there, ETSU scored the next three points to open up a lead they would never give up. Eventually, ETSU had match point at 24-15. The Owls fought off the first two attempts on kills by Stokes and Ginny Frederick, but a kill for ETSU ended the set and the match with a win for the home team.
