BUIES CREEK, N.C. - In their final road match of the regular season, the Kennesaw State soccer team defeated Campbell University 2-0 on Wednesday night, marking the Owls second to last Atlantic Sun Conference match of the year.
The Black and Gold (10-4-4, 5-2-2) wasted no time taking the lead when Yasha Blount put KSU up 1-0 in the 37th minute off a pass from Katie Scott, her 8th assist of the season. The goal marks Blount's second of the year, her first coming in the Owls 4-1 win over USC Upstate last weekend.
Neither team scored the remaining of the half but Kennesaw State did out-shoot the Camels 7-2 and had 5 shots on goal.
Freshman Shelby Cosby gave the Black and Gold some leverage in the second half when she rebounded a shot taken by Rachel Baer and sailed a shot past the CU goalkeeper, Jamie Panfel who ended the match with six saves. Cosby is now tied for third on the team in goals with four.
The Camels had several opportunities to shoot the ball, but Bridget Gaughan and the KSU defense were too much, limiting CU to only four shots while Pugh ended the match with one save.
Kennesaw State is off this weekend but they return to A-Sun action on Wednesday, October 29 when they host conference rival Mercer for a 7:00 pm match at the KSU Soccer Field.
