Final Stats

KENNESAW, Ga. - In a thrilling Atlantic Sun Conference match, the Kennesaw State soccer team defeated East Tennessee State 2-1 in the final minutes of over-time on Friday night at the KSU Soccer Field.

With less than four minutes remaining in over-time and the game tied at one a piece, Brittany Vining sent a pass to Rachel Baer who kicked a shot right over the ETSU goalkeeper's fingertips to give the Owls (8-4-4, 3-2-2) another A-Sun victory.

Even though KSU fans were cheerful after the game, they didn't look that way in the first half as the Owls trailed 1-0. A Jessica Hiltenbrand throw-in resulted in a Genna Petersen shot that was deflected by the KSU defenders and fell into the goal in the 25th minute, putting ETSU (5-7-1, 3-3-1) 1-0.

The Owls had plenty of opportunities to score, out-shooting ETSU 10-2 with three shots on goal including a header from Beth Meadors that hit off the cross bar and out of reach.

Yasha Blount also came close to tying the game for KSU. After a slide tackle from Katie Scott, Blount sent a shot to the right side of the goal that was barely stopped by a diving Megan Masch.

The Black and Gold scored within the first six minutes of second half action when Meadors picked up her fourth goal of the season off a shot that came from a corner kick by Caroline Austin, her tenth assist of the year.

The Buccaneers almost won the game when Jessica Huntington sent a shot from 20 yards out that deflected off of Staci Pugh's hands and fell behind her. Luckily, the Fayetteville, Ga. native turned around and caught the ball before it fell into the net.

The Owls could breathe a sigh of relief when Baer scored her tenth goal of the season in over-time to give KSU a 2-1 victory over ETSU.

"It was a great all-around team performance," said head coach Rob King. "The girls played with confidence and we had great spirit on the side lines. Eventually, all the hard work paid off."

The Owls are back in action this Sunday when they host USC Upstate at 2:00 p.m. at the KSU Soccer Field. This game marks one of two final home contests for KSU.
