MACON, Ga. - The final hole got the better of the Owls at the Brickyard Collegiate Championship on Sunday, as they went a combined six-over par on the closing par-four ninth to fall to a tie for 13th after 36 holes of play.

"Today was a big opportunity for us to climb the leaderboard," said Kennesaw State Head Coach Blake Smart. "Unfortunately, we really finished poorly and gave up a lot of shots to the field."

Scoring was tough at the windy 7,104-yard, par-70 Brickyard at Riverside Golf Club. Kennesaw State came in at 303, moving their two-day total to 602, just eight strokes out of the top 10. They are tied with host Mercer for thirteenth heading into Monday's final round. Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech are in a three-way tie for the lead at 577.

Michael Tulacz returned to form to lead the Owls on Sunday, shooting a one-under par 69 to move into a tie for 14th. Tulacz's two-round 145 has him just three strokes out of the top five and five behind leader Nick Archambault of Penn State. KSU's senior is second in both birdies (6) and par four scoring (4.08). He was three under through 17 before a double bogey six on the ninth prevented him from shooting the lowest round of the day.

Jeff Karlsson was the only other Owl to improve in his second round, shooting a 76 to move into a tie for 65th at 154. Karlsson had trouble finding the red numbers, turning in his lone birdie on the par three fifth. The Owls freshman also had trouble with the ninth, closing with a double bogey six of his own.

Redshirt junior Christopher Johnson fell down the leaderboard after a second round 78, while J.P. Putnam and Matthew Nagy both turned in 80's. Johnson is tied for 47th at 151 while Putnam and Nagy are in 52nd and 78th respectively.

"We have one more day to make a move and do something special," added an optimistic Smart. "We are out early and the weather should be much better."

The Owls will tee-off at 9 a.m. in Monday's final round and will play with Oregon and Mercer. Live scoring, provided by Golfstat, is available by clicking on the live stats link on the right-hand side of the Kennesaw State Athletics homepage at www.ksuowls.com.
