Owls Stopped by Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - After having full control of the match, the Owls were upset as Lipscomb's Halie Proffitt scored in the 52nd minute to give the Bisons a, 1-0, victory on Sunday afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

The Owls (7-4-4, 2-2-2 A-Sun) dominated the match from the outset, out shooting Lipscomb, 35-4, but were unable to score for the second straight match. Kennesaw State had nine corner kicks while Lipscomb (4-9-1, 2-4-0 A-Sun) did manage to get one during the match.

Proffitt took a cross from the left side from Kate Spellman and was able to scoot it past Kennesaw State goalkeeper Staci Pugh for the lone score of the match on the Bisons only shot on goal.

Kennesaw State came out strong again, getting their first corner kick in the eighth minute. Katie Scott and Katie Schwartz had shots in the 11th and 12th minutes as the Owls controlled the match and keep the action in the Lipscomb end of the pitch.

The Owls had 12 shots in the first half and six corner kicks, but could not get anything past Lipscomb goalkeeper Katie Shelton. The second half saw Kennesaw State even more aggressive, taking 23 shots and putting six on goal.

Beth Meadors, Kristin Kranick and Sarah Marek all had shots in the first six minutes of the second half as the Owls continued their barrage of shots. Beginning in the 62nd minute, KSU had another strong flurry as Kranick, Jessica Kalonji and Brittany Vining all had shots stopped by Shelton.

The Black and Gold managed eight shots in the final 11 minutes including four shots in the final four minutes but were unable to get the game-tying goal. Kranick, Meadors and Vining led the Owls with six shots while Kristin Marietta had three shots on goal.

The Owls will be back in action on Friday evening, Oct. 17 when they host ETSU at 7:00 p.m. at the KSU Soccer Complex.
