Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. - Britteny Henderson scored 18 points, but a 28 percent shooting night did in Kennesaw State as the Lady Owls lost to Jacksonville, 61-53, in a battle for first-place in the Atlantic Sun Conference on Monday night at the KSU Convocation Center.

The Lady Owls (7-8, 2-1 A-Sun) committed only 17 turnovers and matched Jacksonville in rebounds, but a 6-for-31 first half put KSU in a deep hole in which they couldn't recover.

Kennesaw State held Jacksonville (14-3, 4-0) to 29 points in the first half, but could only score 19 and trailed the Dolphins by 10 points at the break. The Lady Owls made just two field goals in the first 12 minutes of the half, as they didn't hit double-figures until the 6:39 mark.

The Dolphins shot 48 percent in the first half even though they missed all 10 of their three-point attempts. However, on defense they were able to keep the Lady Owls on the perimeter where the Black and Gold made just one of 11 three-pointers.

Ashley Williams (9-for-12) scored a game-high 20 points to lead Jacksonville while Regina Omoite (2-for-10) picked up a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She came close to a triple-double, dishing out a game-high seven assists.

Jacksonville jumped out to a quick start, scoring the first six points of the game, Williams scoring the first four, and never trailed over the course of the night. Kennesaw State was able to come within three points in the first half and did rally in the second half, cutting a double-digit lead to five points late in the second half.

Jacksonville led, 47-32, with 8:52 remaining before a jumper by Ashley Johnson (2-for-10) ignited a, 14-4, run which cut the KSU deficit to five points, 51-46, with 2:34 left. The Lady Owls wouldn't get any closer as they shot 2-for-8 the rest of the way.

Nikki Gurley (4-for-13) scored 11 points and Greteya Kelley (3-for-10) added 10 points and eight rebounds for Kennesaw State. Virginia Gregoire (4-for-11) scored 13 points and had five rebounds for Jacksonville.

The Lady Owls will be back in action on Saturday evening when they travel to play A-Sun newcomer Florida Gulf Coast at 5:00 p.m.
