KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State women's soccer team scored twice in a three minute span en route to a 3-0 shutout of Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday afternoon at the KSU Soccer Complex.

"We started quite slow," said head coach Rob King. "We made some adjustments at halftime and they paid off with three goals in the second half."

After the teams battled for 65 minutes of scoreless play, the Owls (7-2, 2-0 A-Sun) struck gold when Annie Phillips scored her sixth goal of the season to give KSU a 1-0 lead.

The Savannah, Georgia native took a pass from Caitlin Dingle just inside the penalty area. After taking a touch to her left, Phillips fired a rocket to the lower right corner, past FGCU's (5-4, 1-1) keeper Kirsi Keenan.

Just three minutes later, it was Dingle's turn to shine as she put away a low header off a pass from Sara Clapham to make the score 2-0.

"We were able to get forward in the second half," said Dingle. "Luckily we were able to put our chances away towards the end of the game."

KSU's third and final goal came just four seconds from full time when Maylee Attin-Johnson corralled a free kick from Bridget Gaughan and rocketed a shot off that deflected off the right post and into the net for the final tally of the match.

The Owls defense stood strong yet again, securing its four shutout of the season and limiting the second leading scorer in the A-Sun, Lindsey Haw, to no shots on goal.

KSU's best chance of the first 45 minutes came in the 32nd minute when Beth Meadors gathered a ball in the center of the field and dribbled to 25 yards out to where she fired only to be denied by Keenan's full-out dive to the right.

The Owls held a 12-2 advantage in shots in the first half and a 20-8 margin overall.

The Owls will be back in action when they travel to Jacksonville, Florida to take on old rival North Florida on October 5 at 7:00 p.m.
