Box Score

A day after winning its first match in Atlantic Sun Conference play, the Kennesaw State volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-11, 30-18, 30-27) decision to host Jacksonville University on Saturday afternoon in Swisher Gym.

Sabrita Gulley had a team-high nine kills for the Owls (3-16, 1-2 A-Sun), while Lindsey Plotner had eight and Jenny Black and Rachel Odom each had five. Black also led the Owls defense with nine digs.

The first game of the match was bookended by a pair of lengthy runs by the Dolphins. Jacksonville scored the first eight points of the match, which was followed by a 6-0 run to bring the first game to its conclusion. In game two,

Jacksonville took the first four points of game two, but after a kill by Black, the Owls trailed 7-5. The two-point deficit was as close as the Owls could get, as Jacksonville would extend the lead to 10 at 28-18. After back-to-back kills, the Dolphins would take game two 30-18.

In the third game, the Owls played with the same resiliency that they had in defeating North Florida the night before. KSU took its first lead of the match in the third game, as an attack error by JU gave the Owls a 4-3 lead. The Dolphins (9-9, 3-1 A-Sun) would regain the lead and eventually stretch the advantage to six at 24-18.

After seeing JU go on lengthy runs in games one and two, the Owls gave the home team a taste of its own medicine. A kill by Plotner brought KSU within five, then back-to-back blocks by the Owls added two more points to the tally. Gulley notched a kill to cut the lead to a pair, then an ace for Black made the score 24-23. With momentum wearing black and gold, Gulley attacked home a set by Ginny Frederick to tie the score at 24-all and send JU into a timeout. The Owls weren't finished with their run, however, as after the 60-second stoppage, kills by Plotner and Gulley capped an 8-0 run for the Owls to give KSU a 26-24 lead.

On a day of runs though, it was the Dolphins that went on the final spurt. A 5-0 run by JU gave the home team match point at 29-26. Plotner recorded her final kill to bring the Owls within two, but a kill by JU gave the Dolphins the game 30-27 and the match 3-0.

Kennesaw State will home for a pair of matches this week. The Owls will host Georgia State in a non-conference match this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before taking on A-Sun rival Mercer on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
