MOBILE, Ala. - Ginny Frederick had seven kills without an error, but the Kennesaw State volleyball team fell 3-0 to South Alabama on Saturday afternoon at the Jaguar Classic.

The Black and Gold trailed game one 11-7 until a kill and a block on back-to-back plays by Asjia Stokes pulled Kennesaw within two. From there, the Jaguars took five of the next six points to open a 16-10 lead. The lead would get trimmed to four at 21-17 after a block by Stokes and Rachel Odom, but South Alabama steadied itself off a timeout to get the lead back up to six. Trailing 28-21, the Owls went on a late run to get close. Two service aces by Liz Schreck, a South Alabama hitting error, and a kill by Stokes brought Kennesaw within three at 28-25. But South Alabama would take the next two points, winning the first frame 30-25.

In the second stanza, the Owls traied 11-9 after back-to-back service aces by Eman Burns. But the Jaguars won 19 of the last 23 points to take the game 30-13.

In the finale, the Owls took the first two points after a kill by Lindsey Plotner and an ace by Burns. South Alabama would come back to tie the score, but a ball handling error by USA and a kill by Jenny Black would allow the Owls to maintain a 4-3 advantage. South Alabama would take the next three points to get the lead, which they would expand up to four at 18-14. From there, the Owls would mount a 6-0 charge to take the lead. A Frederick kill brought the Owls within three, then a hitting error by South Alabama and back-to-back aces by Frederick evened the score. After a setting error one point later, Kennesaw led 19-18. Frederick then served her third ace of the rotation, giving Kennesaw a 20-18 lead.

The advantage would be short-lived, however, as the Jaguars came back to take the next three points and regain the lead 21-20. The Owls would keep it close, tying the score at 24-all after a kill by Stokes. But South Alabama took six of the last seven points to close out the Owls, winning game three 30-25 and the match 3-0.

Stokes had nine kills to lead the Owls offense, tying Burns Selina O'Leary for the team lead in digs with six. Frederick hit .636 for the match, connecting for her seven kills on 11 attacks without an error.
