Lindsey Plotner had nine kills and four total blocks, but it wasn't enough as the Kennesaw State volleyball team was swept by McNeese State, 3-0 (30-22, 30-16, 30-21), on Friday night at the Jaguar Classic, hosted by the University of South Alabama.
The Owls out-blocked the Cowgirls by a five-to-three margin. Plotner improved on her blocks per game average by smothering four McNeese State attacks.
In game one, a block by Sabrita Gulley and Plotner pulled Kennesaw State to within two points at 9-7. But a 7-1 run by McNeese State allowed the Cowgirls to pull away for a 30-22 win.
In the second stanza, a kill by Jenny Black pulled the Owls within a pair of points at 6-4. Again, McNeese State would respond, ripping off seven straight points to get a commanding 13-4 lead.
The final game saw the Black and Gold jump out to a 2-1 lead after a Plotner kill and a service ace by Asjia Stokes. But a 10-1 run by the Cowgirls gave the Owls an 11-3 lead en route to a three-game sweep.
Stokes paced the Kennesaw State defense with seven digs, while Ginny Frederick had 14 assists in leading the Owl offense.
Kennesaw State will return to action tomorrow at noon when they face the host Jaguars. Following Saturday's match, the Black and Gold will travel to Troy University for a 7:00 p.m. match on Tuesday night.
