Eagles Drop Owls in Four

KENNESAW, Ga. - Lindsey Plotner had a match-high 16 kills, but Georgia Southern held off Kennesaw State in four games, 30-23, 30-32, 30-26, 30-21, in the Owls home opener at the KSU Convocation Center on Tuesday evening.

The Owls (1-4) fell in the first set, 30-23, but were able to rally in the second set as they overcame a 26-24 deficit to win the second game, 32-30. Jenny Black, who had eight kills and 18 digs, scored the final two points for Kennesaw State.

Kennesaw State was again strong up front with 10 total blocks. Plotner had 4.5 blocks for the Owls and led KSU with two solo blocks.

In the third game both teams hit at a blistering level. The Owls had a .455 attack percentage, but Georgia Southern struck at a .471 clip. The Eagles used a 5-0 run to break open a 7-7 tie as GSU (2-2) quickly took control of the third game.

Georgia Southern built their lead in the third game to as many as six points on seven occasions before Kennesaw State rallied back. The Owls were able to cut the deficit to three points four different times before falling 30-26. In the final game the Owls stayed with the Eagles early before falling 30-21.

Christy Dowd had a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs for Georgia Southern. The Eagles had two other players, Sarah Gildersleeve and Gorana Bacic, with 11 kills.

Sabrita Gulley had 14 kills and 15 digs for Kennesaw State while Ginny Frederick had 42 assists. Plotner led the Owls with a .517 attack percentage while Jasmine Ruiz hit at a .462 mark.

The Owls will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Asheville, N.C. to play in the UNC Asheville Volleyball Classic. Kennesaw State will play host UNC Asheville on September 1 at 10:30 a.m.
