KSU-UNCW Box Score
HIGH POINT, N.C. - Sophomore Asjia Stokes had a team-high six kills in the first match while redshirt freshman Sabrita Gulley had 12 kills and eight digs in the second match as the Kennesaw State volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 defeats to High Point and UNC Wilmington at the High Point Invitational on Saturday.
With the losses, KSU falls to 1-3 on the season while both High Point and UNC Wilmington improve to 1-2.
The Owls had somewhat of a letdown after coming off their first win of the season on Friday night against North Carolina A&T. The host Panthers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead before KSU put up a better fight in the third game.
Kennesaw State opened an early lead in the third game after consecutive kills by Liz Schreck and Selina O'Leary. An attack error by HPU's Jamie Kaufman extended the lead to six at 14-8 before the Panthers came back to tie the score at 20-20 with two attack errors from the young Owls. The combination of four kills and six more KSU errors down the stretch gave High Point the final game and the match as they secured the sweep, 30-19, 30-11, 30-27.
Things didn't fair much better for the Owls in their final match of the tournament against UNC Wilmington. The Seahawks had two players finish with double-digit kills as Paula McConnell and Rachael Caricato posted 13 and 11, respectively.
KSU had 31 attack errors to just 31 kills as they finished the match with a .000 attack percentage, the lowest of the young 2007 season.
Jenny Black earned all-tournament honors with 22 kills and 39 digs in the four matches.
The Owls will look to get back into the win column when they play host to Georgia Southern in the home opener on Tuesday night at the KSU Convocation Center. The match will start at 7:00 p.m. and it will be "Pack the Stands" night, allowing fans to be admitted for $1.
