Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Clint Roques drove in four runs and Kennesaw State put up six runs in the seventh inning as the Owls cruised to a 15-2 win over Jacksonville State on Tuesday night at Rudy Abbott Field.

The 15 runs scored by KSU (30-22) are the second most this season and the biggest offensive out-put since the Owls put up 18 runs against Samford on February 24.

The Owls started the scoring early on as they put up three runs in the first frame. Jacob Robbins led off the game with a single to left and scored two batters later when Jay Morrow singled through the left side.

After Jerome Wooley drove in a run when he reached on an error by the third baseman, Roques drove in his first run on a fielder's choice to make the score 3-0. The Owls would add two more runs in the third inning off the bat of their right-fielder when he doubled to left center, scoring Jace Whitmer and Matt Dallas and stretching the lead to 5-0.

Starter Justin Edwards was strong from the get-go as he limited the Gamecocks (??-??) to just four hits, while striking out three in four innings of work. The lefty allowed his only run of the game in the fourth when JSU's Andrew Edge singled down the rightfield line scoring Clay Whitmore and bringing the score to 5-1.

Roques drove in his final run of the night in the sixth when he once again doubled to left center to plate Dallas. But it was in the seventh when the Owls did their damage as they batted around starting with a Matt Hopkins walk.

Two of the next three batters would draw the free pass to load the bases before Whitmer smacked a single up the middle, scoring two. Brady Vaughan and Dallas then both walked and were driven in by a Hopkins single.

Jacksonville State added its only other run of the game in the bottom half of the inning when a Bert Smith single score Kyle McCreary from second.

In addition to Roques' four RBI night, Whitmer, Dallas, Wooley and Hopkins each had a multiple RBI game with two apiece. Robbins, Morrow and Andrew Martin each plated a run of their own as the Owls pounded out 12 hits.

The Owls return home for the final series of the season when they play host to the Campbell Camels beginning on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. Friday afternoon at 12:30 KSU will pay honor to its seven seniors in a pre-game ceremony before a 1:00 doubleheader.
