Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Jace Whitmer hit his fourth home run of the season and drove in four runs to propel Kennesaw State to an 11-8 win over Belmont in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Greer Stadium.

KSU (29-22, 11-13 Atlantic Sun) pounced on the Bruins (28-23, 14-10) early and often as the Owls scored two runs in the first inning and another three in the second.

After Jacob Robbins grounded out and Martin Baker struck out to lead off the game, Jay Morrow singled through the right side. Whitmer then strolled to the plate and smacked a 1-2 pitch deep to centerfield for his team-high fourth homer and 38th and 39th RBI of the season.

The Owls continued their scoring in the third when Matt Dallas led off the frame with a single and advanced to second on an Adam Cross sacrifice bunt. Andrew Martin followed and reached base after being hit by a pitch right before a Matt Hopkins single plated Dallas to make the score 3-0.

KSU wasn't done in the third and added its fourth and fifth runs of the game when a Morrow walk scored Hopkins and when Robbins, who had walked, scored on a wild pitch from Belmont starter Josh Moffitt.

Whitmer added his third and fourth RBI of the game when he doubled to left center to stretch the lead to 7-0. The Bruins responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to four.

Kyle Muschara (5-0) was effective out of the bullpen for the Owls as the right-hander allowed three runs on three hits over three and two-thirds innings pitched. Conversely, Moffitt (3-4) was roughed up for seven runs on eight hits in three and two-thirds innings of work.

Bubba Blalock came on to record the final out to pick up his first save of the year.

The Owls will play their final road contest of the season when they travel to Jacksonville State on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT. KSU will then return home for a three game series with Campbell beginning on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m. at Stillwell Stadium.
