Box Score

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - East Tennessee State's Caleb Glafenhein won both games of Saturday's doubleheader as the Buccaneers defeated Kennesaw State, 5-2, to sweep the three-game series from the Owls at Cardinal Park.

Most of the scoring in the series finale came in the first two innings as the Owls and the Bucs battled run-for-run. Kennesaw State (18-15, 2-7 A-Sun) scored in their half of the first inning for the third straight game.

The Owls got first-inning hits from Martin Baker and Clint Roques and scored their first run on a bases-loaded passed ball. ETSU (23-12, 10-2 A-Sun) answered quickly in the first when C.J. Lee singled and Justin Aughey doubled off starter Dan Dale. After Danny Petro singled, the Bucs took a 2-1 lead on a groundout by Troy Mendez.

Dale (1-1) allowed three of his seven hits in the first inning and pitched well in his seven innings of work. The left-hander allowed just three earned runs on the day while recording six strikeouts and issuing just one walk.

The second inning saw both Kennesaw State and East Tennessee State score on errors. Both teams combined to make seven errors in the game. For the weekend, the Owls and the Buccaneers combined to make 19 errors.

From the third inning forward, Kennesaw State managed six hits off Glafenhein. However, the Owls were not able to score as they only put one runner past second base the remainder of the game.

ETSU scored in the fourth inning on a squeeze play and added their final run in the eighth when Petro scored on a Kennesaw State throwing error.

The Owls will be back in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. to play UAB at 8:00 p.m. est.
