Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State got a solid start from senior Janet Kearns and fellow senior Jennifer Nolan delivered a key, two-run double as the Owls defeated Campbell, 4-1, to sweep a doubleheader at Bailey Park on Saturday.

The Owls (32-14, 6-2 A-Sun) fell behind in the third inning when center fielder April Keasler misplayed a Brittany Stanley (1-for-3) line drive to center field. After a bunt moved Stanley to third, Shayla Cullum (3-for-4) doubled to the gap in left field, giving Campbell a 1-0 lead.

Kennesaw State took the lead in the fifth inning with a two-out rally that began when Keri McKee (2-for-3) singled through the left side, moving Kelley Cowart (1-for-3) to second base. Jennifer Nolan (1-for-3) then delivered a two-run double to left field for a 2-1 KSU lead.

The Owls added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Amanda Malcom (1-for-1) and Klair Wells (1-for-3) delivered RBI singles to provide the final margin of victory.

Kearns (6-4), who made just her sixth start of the season, kept the Camels hitters off-balance throughout her five and one-third innings or work. Campbell (23-29-1, 5-7 A-Sun) got just four hits and an unearned run off Kearns, who did not issue a walk while striking out four batters.

Both teams had opportunities throughout with each team leaving runners on base in six innings. Kennesaw State left at least one runner on base in each of six innings while Campbell stranded base runners in every inning but the second.

Brittany Matthews concluded her spectacular weekend by picking up the save with an inning and two-thirds of scoreless relief. Matthews finished her stellar weekend with a no-hitter, two complete games, two wins, two saves and 26 strikeouts.

Kennesaw State continues its homestand on Wednesday afternoon when they host Georgia Southern in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Bailey Park.
