KSU Takes Third at Springtime Invitational

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The Kennesaw State women's track team got its outdoor season underway this past weekend at the Springtime Invitational hosted by Jacksonville State University.

The Owls had several top performances as they finished third in the six-team meet with 127 points. The host Gamecocks won the meet with a total of 316 points, while Carthage College finished second with 157. Stillman College (18), Fisk University (16) and West Georgia (5) rounded out the field.

Erin Sutton returned to her form of a year ago as she easily won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:40.91. Brittany Reilly (19:01.10) and Catherine Combs (19:19.71) finished second and third to secure the sweep for KSU.

Soibhan Wolcott took second in the 800-meter run, as the freshman crossed the line in 2:22.12, while teammate Caitlin German was right behind in third with a time of 2:23.11.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Shantela Davis, Taylor Harris, Stacie Anthony and Sandi Brown set a new school record time of 48.74 to finish second in the event.

Other performances of note included Davis' second-place showing in the triple jump with a leap of 11.41m (37-05.25), Brown's third-place mark of 5.20m (17-00.75) in the long jump and Lakeshia Stinson's third place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.02).

The Owls will be back in action this weekend when they return to Jacksonville for the Gem of the Hills Invitational.
