JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - The Kennesaw State men's team continued it great start to the outdoor season as the Owls won the Springtime Invitational hosted by Jacksonville State University last weekend.
The Owls easily won the meet with 224 points. Fisk University finished second with 95 points, while Stillman College (84), Belmont (47) and the host Gamecocks (32) rounded out the top five. Bryan College (31) and West Georgia (20) also competed in the meet.
Leading the way for KSU was Joshua McNair, who bested his own school record with a throw of 46.78m (153-06) to win the discus. The freshman thrower also finished second in the hammer throw with a mark of 45.05m (147-10), just behind teammate Aymerick Kolokilagi, who won the event with a toss of 45.10m (147-11).
Other first places finishes for the Owls included Scott Burley in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:45.26), Devin Jones in the 110-meter hurdles (14.89), Deji Famuyiwa in the 400-meter dash (50.71), Jerome McKenzie in the high jump (1.98m, 6-06.00), Terrence Hooks in the 400-meter hurdles (56.11) and the 4 x 400-meter relay team of Justin Jeter, Jones, Famuyiwa and Ben Gray (3:24.57).
Casey Strickland, who is red-shirting this season, competed as an unattached athlete and won both the shot put (14.80m, 48-06.75) and the javelin throw (48.44m, 158-11). Peikko Solla had another strong showing in the 5,000-meter run as he finished in second place with a time of 15:29.92.
The Owls will be back in action next weekend with some members of the team competing in the Florida Relays and the majority of the team heading back to Jacksonville for the Gem of the Hills Invitational.
