ATLANTA, Ga. - Georgia Tech received single home runs in the second and then again in the fifth inning as the Yellow Jackets cruised to a 5-0 win over Kennesaw State in game one of a doubleheader at Glenn Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Brittany Barnes got the Yellow Jackets (40-13) on the board in the second inning when she took a full-count pitch deep over the left field wall to give Tech an early 1-0 lead.
The Yellow Jackets made the score 2-0 when Kristina Hull slapped the first pitch of the fifth deep over the left field wall.
Kennesaw State (35-16) struggled from the plate as the Owls could only secure three hits and only seven base runners for the entire fame.
Georgia Tech added their final three runs in the sixth inning when Aileen Morales led off the frame with a single and then stole second base. After Jennifer Yee followed with another single, KSU's Janet Kearns threw a wild pitch plating the third run for the Jackets.
Samantha Brown then followed with yet another single and then a Hollie Huffman error allowed Tech to score their final run, shuting out the Owls for the first time since March 21 when the Owls fell 2-0 at East Tennessee State.
Missy Hobdy suffered the loss for KSU. The lefty gave up two earned runs on three hits to fall to 7-4 on the season. Whitney Humphreys got the win for Georgia Tech after throwing five innings of scoreless ball, allowing just two hits while striking out four Owls batters.
