Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Jennifer Nolan drove in all four of the Owls runs as Kennesaw State defeated Lipscomb, 4-2, in the first game of a Sunday afternoon doubleheader at Draper Diamond.

Nolan's third-inning, three-run, home run was the big blow of the game for Kennesaw State as the Owls overcame a 2-1 deficit. The Owls third baseman had a pair of hits in addition to her second four-RBI game of the season.

The inning began with a single by Kelley Cowart (1-for-3), who extended her hitting streak to four games, and a walk to Keri McKee. Nolan (2-for-2) followed with her ninth home run of the year, an opposite field blast that cleared the right-center field fence, giving Kennesaw State a, 4-2, lead.

The Owls (34-15, 8-3 A-Sun) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Nolan's sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning. Their lead, however, would last only until the bottom of the second inning as KSU starter, Brittany Matthews, was tagged for back-to-back home runs.

After getting out of a two-runner jam in the bottom of the first inning, Matthews (17-3) got into deeper trouble immediately in the second inning. Christen Campbell (1-for-3) homered to right-center field to start the inning and Julia Davidson (1-for-2) followed with a blast down the left field line, giving the Bisons a 2-1 lead.

Matthews, who has allowed 16 home runs this season, settled down the rest of the way, allowing Lipscomb (23-20-1, 8-6-1 A-Sun) just one hit over the remaining five innings. The southpaw tossed her 13th complete game of the season and had five strikeouts.

Klair Wells (2-for-4) had two hits in the game, marking the 13th time this season that the freshman has had a multi-hit game.
