VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Kennesaw State lost its first match of the weekend as they lost to Longwood University, 7-0, at the Hampton Roads Invitational at Owl Creek.
The Lancers (7-6) swept Kennesaw State as the Owls fell to 5-2 all-time at the event sponsored by Old Dominion University. The Lancers took all three doubles matches to earn the first point and won all six singles matches.
"This was a very strong, very deep opponent," said head coach Brandon Padgett.
Kennesaw State (3-16) had a chance to earn a point at No. 6 singles when Lindsey Whalen took the opening set from Lexi Torrice, 6-1. However, Torrice came back to edge Whalen in the second set, 7-5 before taking the match with a 10-4 tiebreaker in the third set.
Romana Bucur defeated Kennesaw State's Mercedes Cobos 6-2, 6-1 in the number one spot while Elena Triebskorn downed Giselle Nakakura and Laura Simonain defeated Karen Ammann by 6-2, 6-1 scores.
At number four singles, Ashley Melson edged Jeni Thomas in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 while Lexi Torrice earned a straight-set win over Caroline Page, 6-1, 6-4.
