Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Kennesaw State bats went silent as Lacey Briscoe and Natasha Anderson of Austin Peay combined to blank the Owls on eight-hits in a 2-0 win on Friday afternoon in the Owls second game of the Panther Spring Classic hosted by Birmingham Southern.

Austin Peay (9-7) scored once in the first and again in the seventh as they handed the Owls their fourth consecutive loss.

Kennesaw State (18-10) was not without scoring opportunities as they stranded runners in all but one inning, totaling 11 in the game, including two in the bottom of the seventh inning.

With one-out in the seventh, the Owls got a pair of infield hits from Klair Wells (1-for-4) and Keri McKee (2-for-4) and chased APSU starter Briscoe (3-0) two outs from a complete-game shutout.

Anderson, who drove in the game's first run, came into pitch from third base and struck out Jennifer Nolan (0-for-3) and April Keasler (1-for-3) to pick up her second save.

The Owls had a pair of scoring opportunities in the first and second innings but were thwarted by Briscoe. In the bottom of the first, the Owls loaded the bases on three walks, but Briscoe got Kelsey Kulk (1-for-3) to groundout to end the threat.

In the second inning, the Owls had runners on second and third with one out as Jamie KeKaualua (1-for-3) and Hollie Huffman (1-for-3) both singled. However, Kelley Cowart (0-for-3) struck out and Wells grounded into a force play to end the inning.

The third inning saw Kennesaw State put another two runners on base when Keasler and Kulk reached on two-out singles. Both were left on when Huffman grounded out to end the frame.

Austin Peay scored a run in the first inning off Missy Hobdy (5-2) on an RBI-single by Anderson. In the seventh, a triple by Ami Bush (1-for-1) and a double by Fallon Felts (1-for-3) concluded the scoring.
