JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Owls court woes continued on Wednesday afternoon as Kennesaw State remained winless as they fell to Jacksonville, 6-1, in an Atlantic Sun Conference match.

The Owls (0-9, 0-4 A-Sun) were swept decidedly in doubles and trailed 1-0 heading into singles play as no KSU doubles team could win more than three games. Karen Ammann and Caroline Page lost, 8-3, to Jacksonville's Emese Sulyos and Lena Willi at No. 3 doubles in the Owls closest match in the flight.

"We didn't play as strongly in doubles as we have been playing," said head coach Brandon Padgett. "Today it carried over a bit into singles."

The Owls took one-point in singles as No. 6 Lindsey Whalen won by default. No. 1-seed Mercedes Cobos played a 90-minute, two-set match before falling to Sulyos, 6-1, 6-0 as Jacksonville moved to 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

"Despite the score lines, Mercedes played a great match at number one," added Padgett, who is still looking for his first victory as the Owls head coach. "The match lasted an hour and a half, even and wasn't indicative of the lopsided score."

Ammann played well in the second set of her match against Tatiana Soldatova. The Owls No. 3 singles player dropped the first set, 6-0, but rallied to lead 5-4 in the second set and served for the set before falling, 7-5.

"Karen also played a great second set," commented Padgett. "She served for it at 5-4, so it wasn't far off from a deciding set."

Kennesaw State will be back in action on Thursday afternoon when they battle rival North Florida at 1:00 p.m.
