KENNESAW, Ga. - The 2006-07 season ended for Kennesaw State on Sunday before an enthusiastic and supportive crowd as they witnessed the Lady Owls win their final game of the season, 72-61, at the KSU Convocation Center.
The Lady Owls finished an eight-game turnaround from last season and this afternoon Kennesaw State (13-16, 8-10 A-Sun) dominated the first half at times. KSU led by as as many as 13 points in the game before holding on for the 11-point win.
After seeing their lead diminish late in the half and early in the second half, Kennesaw State found themselves tied with Stetson, 40-40, with 17:33 left in the game.
however, a pair of free-throws by Stephanie Scearce (5-for-14) put the Lady Owls ahead to stay. The Hatters (5-24, 5-13 A-Sun) were able to get back within a point moments later, 44-43, before the Lady Owls took control for the final time.
Kennesaw State, after seeing lead-after-lead vanish in the second half this season, went on a 9-0 run over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.
Jennifer Baker (4-for-11) and Rosetta Hollis (7-for-11) hit quick jumpers for a five-point lead and Gia Lockett (5-for-10) drained a three-pointer and then followed with a short-jumper in the lane
Hollis scored a team-high 17-points for the Lady Owls. Scearce and Gia each added 14 points while Baker had 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Janene Maclin (7-for-12) had a game-high 19 points to lead Stetson. Kellie Olson (4-for-8) scored 16 and Ayesha Barkley (7-for-13) had 15 for the Hatters.
The Lady Owls were on fire in the first half, shooting 47 percent from the field and receiving nine points each from Scearce and Hollis as they led Stetson, 37-34.
