VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Kennesaw State women's tennis team recorded its second win of the season as the Owls downed Drexel, 5-1, on the first day of the Hampton Road Tennis Roundup.
The Owls (2-15) received strong play all-around as they took five of the six singles matches. No doubles matches were played.
"We fought hard and played well today," said head coach Brandon Padgett. "I am extremely proud of our team and I hope we can carry this momentum throughout the weekend."
Leading the way at No. 1 was Mercedes Cobos, who rebounded in the third set to down Gabi Marqinean, 7-5, 0-6, 11-9. Giselle Nakakura had an easy time at No. 2 as she dispatched of Emily Lewis, 6-2, 6-2.
The highlight of the day was at No. 3 as Karen Ammann rallied from being down 5-2 in the first set to clinch a three-set victory over Melissa Lewis, 7-6, 3-6, 10-4. Caroline Page (6-0, 6-2) and Lindsey Whalen (1-6, 7-6 (5), 10-1) recorded wins at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
The Owls will continue play tomorrow as they take on Longwood University.
