Box Score

KENNESAW, Ga. - Nicole Tumlin hit a three-run home run and Jennifer Nelson limited the Owls to just five hits as UAB downed Kennesaw State, 5-2, in game two on the way to a doubleheader sweep of the Owls on Tuesday afternoon at Bailey Park.

UAB (24-16) picked up right where they left off in game one as Lindsey Stanley led off the nightcap with a single and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. After game one hero, Andrea Rogers, drew a walk, Tumlin smacked a Norie Glazebrook pitch deep to left center and over April Keasler to put the Blazers ahead 3-0.

The Blazers added another run in the third when Nelson doubled down the left field line, scoring Kayla Harris to push the lead to 4-0.

KSU (28-14) struggled all game to figure out Nelson and through five innings, could only muster two hits, both of which came off the bat of second baseman Klair Wells. But in the sixth, the Owls bats came alive, at least briefly, when Keasler and Jamie KeKaualua started things off with back-to-back singles.

Megan Gant came up two batters later and hit a shot to the third baseman, which was misplayed, allowing Keasler and KeKaualua to score closing the lead to 4-2.

UAB added one more insurance run in the top of the seventh when Leigh Walker hit a single shot over the left field fence to give the Blazers their fifth and final run of the contest.

Glazebrook was shaky in her seventh start of the season, allowing three earned runs and five hits in just an inning and a third as she fell to 4-4 on the season. Nelson went the distance for UAB, giving up no earned runs and five hits to move to 16-6 on the year.

The Owls will be back in action on Friday, April 6 when they return to Atlantic Sun Conference play against the Stetson Hatters. The doubleheader will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Bailey Park.
