Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Kennesaw State jumped out to an early 6-1 lead and cruised to a 12-5 win over Jacksonville to sweep a doubleheader at Alexander Brest Field on Saturday afternoon while winning the three-game series against the Dolphins.

Jay Morrow (3-for-5) and Jace Whitmer (2-for-5) combined to go 5-for-10 in the game with seven runs batted in for Kennesaw State (16-9, 2-1 A-Sun), who has now won 11 out of its last 14 games.

Freshman Kyle Heckathorn (3-0) stayed undefeated on the season. The right-hander went six strong innings, allowing the Dolphins (17-15, 2-4 A-Sun) two runs on four hits with six strikeouts.

A two-out error by Jacksonville third baseman Chuck Opachich opened the floodgates in the first inning. With the Owls already leading 1-0 after Morrow grounded out to score Martin Baker (1-for-4), Jacksonville starter Matt Dobbins walked Matt Dallas (0-for-3) and Adam Cross (0-for-3) to load the bases.

Another walk, this time to Andrew Martin (0-for-2), made the score 2-0 and ended Dobbins' afternoon. In the first game, the Owls also drove Jacksonville's starter out of the game before the end of the first inning. Tim Brown relieved and Tyler Stubblefield (2-for-4) singled through the right side for a four-run KSU lead.

Kennesaw State led 6-1 after three innings and wouldn't let Jacksonville get closer than three runs the rest of the game. The Owls added a pair of runs in the sixth inning and then scored four times in the top of the seventh inning to lead 12-2.

Kyle Muschara pitched two innings in relief for Kennesaw State and allowed three runs. Bubba Blalock pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

The Owls will be back home on Tuesday evening with they host Savannah State at 6:00 p.m. at Stillwell Stadium.
