MARIETTA, Ga. - The Owls fell to Stetson, 7-0, in the final home match of the season on Saturday afternoon at Laurel Park.
In the emotional final home match for Giselle Nakaura and Morgan Wolkin, Kennesaw State (1-15, 0-8 A-Sun) began slowly and lost the doubles point to the Hatters (8-9, 5-3 A-Sun) as the Owls three doubles teams won a total of five games.
"We played a very deep, very talented team today in Stetson," said head coach Brandon Padgett." On the whole we played better today than we did yesterday and I hope we can carry it over to next week and our matches in Virginia Beach."
In singles, the Owls got a solid effort from Karen Ammann and Giselle Nakaura. Ammann lost in a third-set tiebreaker to Samantha Lange after winning the first set while Nakakura played well in a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Breanna Atkinson.
"Karen again played a good match," commented Padgett. "She continues to play solid at number three singles."
Nakakura, who will be graduating with a degree in Mathematics, fell in straight sets in her final home match, but was only a few shots away from forcing a third-set against Atkinson.
"It is kind of sad to play your final home match," said Nakakura. "Especially because this was such a great experience for me. I have amazing teammates, they are all so great and I am going to miss being around them as much as I am now."
Wolkin, who is transferring at the end of the semester, lost her match to Natalie Gorham in straight sets and was equally as emotional as Nakakura.
"This was the best experience I could have ever done," said Wolkin. "I am going to miss the team and my teammates. They are all the best."
"Today was the final home match for Giselle and Morgan," added Padgett, who recently took over the head coaching duties. "We are going to miss them much and wish them all the best in the future."
