The Dolphins (17-13, 2-2 A-Sun) got to Jenkins for four hits in the third inning and knocked him out of the game with one out in the fourth inning. Mike McCallister singled up the middle to lead off the inning. After a steal of second, Ryan McArdle reached on a fielders choice. A sacrifice bunt by Thomas LePage resulted in an error by Jenkins to load the bases. Vickers hit a sacrifice fly to give JU a 3-0 lead and chase Jenkins.
Dan Dale entered the game and walked Logan James to load the bases. The pass was the first of three walks Dale allowed in the inning. The left-hander did strikeout two batters in the frame to keep the score at 5-0. In total, Dale allowed just one hit with four walks and four strikeouts in four and a third innings.
The Owls got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning when Jace Whitmer drove in Martin Baker with a double down the left field line. Baker was hit by a pitch with one out, stole second base and went to third on a wild pitch to set up the run.
KSU was able to put runners in scoring position throughout the night. The Owls had a runner at second base in the first, third, fifth, sixth and ninth innings but were shut down by Young. Jacksonville's pitcher struck out six batters and walked two while scattering three hits. Jerome Wooley and Andrew Martin also had hits for Kennesaw State.
The Owls and the Dolphins will conclude the three-game set on Saturday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
