Montgomery, Ala. - The Kennesaw State baseball team got back to its winning ways as the Owls downed the Hornets of Alabama State in a seven inning shut-out, 12-0, at Paterson Field on Wednesday.

The Owls (5-5) got on the board early by scoring four runs in the second inning. After two outs and a walk by Zack Upton, Andrew Martin singled to keep the inning alive for Daniel Hester who hit a double to center field scoring Upton and Martin.

A ground ball to third was sure to end the inning, but Alabama State (1-7) third baseman, Alex Griggs, made a wild throw allowing Hester to score and Hopkins to advance to second. Martin Baker then hit a double to plate Hopkins for the last run of the inning.

The Owls stayed hot in the third to put another four runs on the board. A walk by Matt Dallas and a single from Adam Cross put two runners on for Jace Whitmer's three-run homer over the left field wall. The final run of the third inning would come after a walk by Upton who advanced to second with a stolen base and was plated with an RBI single from Hester.

The Owls posted a single run in the fourth inning after a walk from Baker and a wild pitch that advanced him to third. A sacrifice fly from Wooley plated Baker making the score 9-0.

The final runs of the game came in the fifth inning with five Owl hits. Whitmer started the inning off with a shot off the wall in left center followed by a single from Upton and a double by Hester that plated Whitmer and Upton. A RBI single from Morrow was the last and final run of the game.

Kyle Muschara, Kyle Clayton and Cacey Rogers all pitched well and only gave up seven hits combined.

Muschara (2-0) picked up the win while Alabama State's Cory Washington suffered the loss.

The Owls will travel to Statesboro for the Eagle Invitational this weekend to play Brown on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and Georgia Southern on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
