Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - For as brilliantly as the Lady Owls played for 34 minutes against Belmont, they played as poorly in the final six minutes as the first-place Bruins stopped Kennesaw State, 86-75, on Saturday evening at the Curb Event Center.

Kennesaw State (8-13, 4-7 A-Sun) gave the Bruins more than they could handle in a game that saw 12 lead changes and 11 ties before the host Bruins (17-4, 11-0 A-Sun) went on a 15-3 run in a five-minute span late in the second half to stay undefeated in the conference.

The biggest star on the Nashville stage on Saturday was Belmont's Alysha Clark. The Bruins forward scored 31-points and added 20-rebounds in one of the A-Sun's most dominating performances of the season.

The sophomore made nine of her 11 shots (including a three-pointer) from the field and was 12 of 15 from the free-throw line. And for good measure, the 5'10" Clark had a game-high five assists.

While Clark was having her way on the offensive side, the pesky Lady Owls were riding the back of their strong sophomore Stephanie Scearce. After scoring just three first half points, Scearce (6-for-14) scored 17 points in the second half and tried valiantly to keep the Lady Owls close.

Suffering through a poor-shooting night, making just 23-of-78 shots from the floor and not having a single player shot better than 50 percent from the field, the Lady Owls DeAndrea Bullock (3-for-14) hit a three-pointer with 7:43 left to give Kennesaw State a 67-65 lead and stun the partisan Bruins crowd.

Despite 49 total fouls called and a combined 69 free-throws attempted, the Lady Owls would hold onto the lead until the 6:19 mark when Amber Rockwell (5-for-13) hit a jumper to begin the KSU demise. Four straight missed shots sandwiched a turnover in a two and one-half minute span that saw a one-point KSU lead evaporate into a nine-point Bruins advantage.

Bullock followed with a basket and moments later a free-throw to briefly stop the damage, but Kennesaw State would get no closer to six points the remainder of the night.

Gia Locket scored 14 points for the Lady Owls and Jennifer Baker added 10 points. The Lady Owls starting backcourt of Jade Robinson (3-for-16), Baker (3-for-10) and Ashley Johnson (2-for-7) were a combined 8-for-33 for 24 percent from the field.

The Lady Owls will be back in action when they host Campbell on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the KSU Convocation Center.
