KENNESAW, Ga. - The Campbell Camels came out strong in doubles and rolled past Kennesaw State in the Owls Atlantic Sun Conference opener at the BridgeMill Tennis Center in Canton, Ga. on Saturday afternoon.

"We came out a little flat today and just couldn't seem to get things going our way, said head coach T.J. Greggs. " I am disappointed that we didn't have a better showing in our first conference match, but there were some positives to take from the match."

The Owls (0-2, 0-1 A-Sun) No. 1 doubles team of Mercedes Cobos and Giselle Nakakura battled hard with the Camels (4-1, 2-0 A-Sun) top doubles team of Scarlet Alfonzo and Blanca Saenz before falling 8-6. Kennesaw State wasn't able to take the No. 2 or No. 3 doubles flight as the Camels dominated the lower flights and led KSU, 1-0.

The bright spot in singles came at No. 2 singles where the Owls Karen Ammann, who lost in straight sets to Saenz, played very well and had numerous opportunities to push Saenz before falling 6-3 and 6-3.

"Giselle and Mercedes played very well at No. 1 doubles and Karen Ammann had a lot of chances in her match at #2 singles as well," added Greggs.

Caroline Page played a strong first set against Campbell's Tania Ahuja, losing 6-4, however the second set was controlled by Ahuja as she posted a 6-1 second set win.

"We'll try to regroup and pick our first win of the season tomorrow against Louisiana-Monroe," said Greggs.

Kennesaw State will look for its first win of the season on Sunday morning when they battle Louisiana-Monroe at the BridgeMill Tennis Center in Canton, Ga.
