KENNESAW, Ga. - Junior Brittany Matthews was once again dominant as she pitched a three-hitter as Kennesaw State blanked Georgia State, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Bailey Park.
Matthews, the reigning Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week, won her fourth straight decision as she limited the Panthers (9-5) to singles in the second, sixth and seventh innings as she raised her record to 5-1 on the year. The left-hander from Brooks, Ga. struck out eight batters and walked only one.
Kennesaw State (13-5) won its third straight game as they scored solo runs in the second and sixth inning to support Matthews who has now gone 16 innings without allowing a run.
The Owls got on the board in the second inning, getting to Georgia State starter Madi Gore (5-2) for a run. Jennifer Nolan led off with a single through the left side and was moved to second on a sacrifice by Malorie Weller. After an out, Sarah Hesterman drove in the games first run with a single to center field.
In the sixth inning the Owls added an insurance run when Nolan led off the frame with a monster home run to left center field. The blast, Nolan's fourth of the season, was her second in two games.
